2) Using the timeline of your choice, answer the questions which follow each section of our scripture:

Genesis 5:1-2 (TLV)

1 This is the Book of the Genealogies of Adam: When God created Adam, in the likeness of God He made him. 2 Male and female He created them, and He blessed them and called their name “Adam” when He created them.

Q-1) When our author says God “called their name Adam” in this scripture, is he talking only about the male --- or the male and female together?

X ______________________________________.

Genesis 5:3-5 (TLV)

3 Adam lived 130 years, then fathered a son in his likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. 4 Then the days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years, and He fathered other sons and daughters. 5 So all Adam’s days that he lived were 930 years, and then he died.

Our scripture, which is now referring solely to the man, says Adam fathered a son in his own “likeness and image”. The words likeness and image are the same words used for the Adam at the time of creation where it says Adam was created in the likeness and image of God. In the Strong’s they are, likeness 1823H and image 6754H.

Q-1) How many generations did Adam live to see? (this info is found on the linked timeline)

From the Strong’s:
Enosh (Enos in the KJV) 583H ′Ěnôwsh, en-ohsh´: this is the same word as 582H en-oshe´; properly- a mortal (and thus differing from the more dignified 120H [Adam]) hence, a man, in general (singularly or collectively)…

*Although the names of Sheth and Kayin’s sons sound similar in the English translation, these are not the same name in the original Hebrew. As we’ll see, however, one of Sheth’s descendants did name his son Hanokh [dedication] the same name as the son of Kayin as we discussed last week.

Methuselah 4968H Methûwshelach, meth-oo-sheh´-lakh; man of a dart; from 4962H math; properly- an adult (as of full length)…

Day Two: "The Sons of God” and “The Daughters of Men”

Today and tomorrow we’ll be digging into a very controversial and hotly debated topic. This is a very divisive issue, so it is important that we, again, have grace for each other and avoid the temptation to “throw one-another away” because of differences of opinion on certain topics. If you disagree with my points here, be sure to write out your case in your journal and be prepared to have a kindly, thoughtful dialogue about it should it come up.

If you don’t know what the books of Enoch and Jasher, etc. are or why some people believe today’s verses suggest that fallen angels mated with human women to produce a sub race of violent, domineering giants who caused the downfall of humanity, you can find thousands of articles and videos on line; just please be aware that people tend to state the things discussed in extra-Biblical books as fact, but there is now much evidence which shows these books to be inaccurate.

If you believe the accounts in such books, just know I am not declaring it completely un-factual; I simply do not believe it at this time. For our study we will attempt to build a basic understanding of what the actual language of scripture tells us led to the world-wide flood, and, of course, we’ll be applying our understanding of the ideas of 1) the Kingship of God 2) the covenant agreement; which all scripture is based upon 3) What is sin? and 4) the technical-construction of the surrounding scripture.

As always, we will all draw our own conclusions, and your-thoughts may differ from mine or others. Like I always say, this is fine and healthy for a diverse people who are studying together. We all must remain humbly teachable as God continues to lead us into all truth; fully aware that you and I do not have all the answers.

Genesis 6:1 (Chabad)

1 And it came to pass when man *[ Adam which means - mankind] commenced to multiply upon the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them.

Q) Who does our scripture say, “multiplied on the earth”?

X ______________________________________.

Men cannot multiply without women, so we are probably safe in assuming our scripture is not suggesting that all of a sudden people started having daughters; therefore, we will assume that our author is simply trying to shift our attention to the multiplication of, not just men, but women upon the earth and a natural issue that has developed as a result.

Our author wrote the Torah to reveal the heart and character of God to all future generations, but he also, clearly, purposed to identify the ups and downs of mankind’s difficulty with upholding our covenant promises to God.

When we are considering the messages relayed to us in a passage of scripture, we must be careful that we not divorce it from the focus of the text around it. Our verses today could be a classic example of this principle. Far too many people lift the following verses out of the surrounding text; failing to consider the reason the previous two chapters were included.

The focus of the the surrounding text is to document the progression of two genealogical lines, both multiplying exponentially upon the earth which has set the stage for the greatest catastrophe in the history of mankind.

Intent of the surrounding scripture: Note your journal should reveal the answers to the first two questions.

Q) What did we deduce was the theme of Chapter Four?

X Identifying __________________ descendants.

Q) What did we conclude was the theme of Chapter Five?

X Identifying __________________ descendants.

Q) What influence do you think these previous two chapters could have on today’s verses?

Before we go any further, let's watch the following:
I want to say, as I often do, that I don’t agree with all of Pastor Anderson’s points, but I feel he clarifies the facts on this issue, so I’m including this video as part of today’s study. Be sure to return and finish today's lesson.

Genesis 6:1,2 (CJB)

In time, when men began to multiply on earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were attractive; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

In the Strong’s:

The sons of God a.k.a. Ben Elohim:
Sons (benei [ben] 1121H bên, bane; a son (as builder of the family name), in the widest sense (of literal, and figurative relationship, including grandson, subject, nation, etc….) …

X ______________________________________.

*Though it is typically applied to male heirs, the title “ben” has been used historically to signify the next generation in a family line and also God's covenant people i.e. "Benei Israel" which means "Sons of Israel".

God (Sons of God in the KJV) 430 H ′ĕlôhîym, el-o-heem´; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: --- angels *[messenger], x exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), x very great, judges, x mighty.

Write a general idea you can see expressed or hinted at in this description; besides God, a god, angels.

X _____________________________________.

The daughters of men:

Daughters 1121H bên, bane; a son (as a builder of the family name), in the widest sense (of literal and figurative; relationship, including grandson, subject, nation; quality or condition, etc….) … daughter, x of first, + firstborn, foal, + very fruitful… from1129H baw-naw´; (PR); to build (literal and figurative): --- (begin to) build (-er), obtain children, make, repair, set (up), x surely.

X _____________________________________.

*This is the exact same "son" as is used for the "sons of God" . Why does every English translation specify sons and daughters when it is not explicitly in the text? There are other words that specifically mean “daughter” which could have been used here, so some believe it is not necessarily daughters but simply a descendant (male or female).

Attractive (“fair” in the KJV) 2896H tôwb, tobe; good (as an adjective) in the widest sense; used likewise as a noun, both in the masculine and the feminine, the singular and the plural (good, a good, or good thing, a good man or woman…), also as an adverb (well)… from 2895H tobe; (PR); to be (transitively- do or make) good (or well) in the widest sense: --- be (do) better, cheer, be (do, seem) good, (make) goodly, x please, (be, do, go, play) well.

X _____________________________________.

*Most sources define the meaning of Towb as “pleasant”, particularly in a carnal sense, i.e. “pleasing to the senses”.  Many of the sages interpret these scriptures to say that throughout the generations of Sheth, his covenant offspring saw the offspring of Kayin and decided [with their own reasoning] they were righteous [enough], so they married or “hooked-up” with them and produced offspring who didn’t walk in covenant with God; or even many who were sacrificed to idols.

Wives 802H ′Ishshâh, ish-shaw´; … feminine form of a combination of 582 Enosh [Seth’s first son, see yesterday’s genealogy] and 376 Eish [the male’s name after Havah was divided out from the Adam] a woman (used in the same wide sense as 582): --- [adulterless, each, every, female, many, + none, one, + together], wife, woman…

X ______________________________________.

*Although it can, this word does not strictly mean wife in the covenantial sense. In many applications the word Isha simply means the female part of the original being which housed the man and woman together as one. The ben-Elohim were not necessarily taking the ben adam as “wives”. It could be that the ben-Elohim were merely engaging sexually with them and many of the ben-adam became pregnant.

Genesis 6:3 (NKJV)

3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

Now note how this reads in the direct translation at Chabad:

Genesis 6:3 (Chabad)

3 And the Lord said, "Let My spirit not quarrel forever concerning man, because he is also flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years."

In the Strong’s:
Quarrel (strive in the KJV) 1777H dîyn, deen (or doon); (PR); to rule; by implication- to judge (as umpire); also, to strive (as at law): --- contend, execute (judgement), judge, minister, judgement, plead (the cause), at strife, strive.

X _______________________________________.

Flesh1320H bâsâr, baw-sawr´; flesh (from its freshness); by extension- body, person; also (by euphemism) the pudenda of a man: --- body, [fat, lean] flesh (-ed), kin [man-] kind, + nakedness, self, skin, from 1319H baw-sar´; (PR); properly- to be fresh, i.e. full (rosy (figuratively) cheerful; to announce ((glad news): --- messenger, preach, publish, shew forth, (bear, bring, carry, preach, good, tell good) tidings.

X _______________________________________.

Yet another conundrum:

Note the odd addition of the word “also” in vs. 3 in the Chabad version.

The word man in this verse is “Adam” [mankind].

We could take the statement “he is also flesh” in two ways.

1) Suggesting that “man”, like someone [something] else, are “also” flesh --- i.e., perhaps; the covenant people [Sheyth's line] are flesh just like those who are not in covenant [Keyin's line];

or

2) It could be that the author is telling us that God won’t struggle with man throughout an extended life span because we are flesh as well as spirit, and for the most part, our “flesh” battles with the Ruach and undermines our attempts at keeping our covenant with God.

Q) Who does vs. 3 indicate is, once again, the problem; man, angels or demons?

X ______________________________________.

Journaling:

Journal your final thoughts on today’s discussion of the “Sons of God and the Daughters of Men”. Describe what you’re inclined to believe about who they were and give some detail why.

Answer the following questions:

Q-1) Is it actually-impossible to live a righteous life or is it only possible if we fully commit to it and allow God to change our hearts and minds?

Q-2) In the end, what makes us commit crimes against God; is it an outward influence or our own lack of discipline to maintain a “kingdom mindset”?

Q-3) How would you define a “kingdom mindset”?

Day Three: Wait, What About the Giants?
Genesis 6:4

I'm underlining the major words which were added or loosely translated in the (KJV) translation.

4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the  sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

Now let's look at how the direct translation at Chabad reads:

(Chabad)

4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of the nobles would come to the daughters of man, and they would bear for them; they are the mighty men, who were of old, the men of renown.

Conundrum Allert:

Q) Who is verse four identifying as “the mighty men --- of old; the men of renown”?

X _____________________________________.

In the Strong’s:

Nephilim (giants in the KJV) 5303H nephîyl, nef-eel´; … properly- a feller *[fallen], i.e. a bully or tyrant: --- giant,

*[this “bully, tyrant --- giant” deff. is now considered, by many scholars, to be a mis-interpretation]

from 5307H naw-fal´; (PR); to fall, in a great variety of applications (intrinsically or causatively, literally or figuratively): --- be accepted, cast (down, self, [lots], out), cease, die, divide (by lot), (let) fail, (cause to, let, make, ready to) fall (away, down, -en, -ing), fell (-ing), fugitive, have [inheritance], inferior, be judged … be (x hast) lost, lying, overthrow, overwhelm, perish, present (-ed, -ing), (make to) rot, slay, smite out, x surely, throw down.

X _____________________________________.

Q) If the word nephilim means someone who is “fallen” (as used in our scripture]; that could apply to a few “people” by now. List those Genesis has informed us [by name] fell and broke their covenant.

__________, __________, __________

Genesis 4b “they are the mighty "MEN", who were of old, the "MEN" of renown”

In the Strong’s:

Mighty1368H gibbôwr, ghib-bore´; powerful, by implication- warrior, tyrant: --- champion, chief, x excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong man, valiant (man), from 1397H gheh´-ber; properly- a valiant man or warrior; generally- a person, simply: --- every one, man x mighty, from 1396H gaw-bar´; (PR); to be strong; by implication- to prevail, act insolently: --- exceed, be great, confirm, be mighty, prevail, put to more [strength], strengthen, be stronger, be valiant.

X _____________________________________.

Renown 8034H shêm, shame; (PR); [perhaps- rather from 7760 through the idea of definite and conspicuous position…] an appellation, as a mark of memorial or individuality; by implication- honor, authority, character: --- + base, [in-] fame [-ous], named (-d), renown, report.

Again, I’m not dogmatic about these verses referring to “fallen-people”, but consider the possibility for a moment and check your Dr. Dino or New to Torah timeline to see if it informs us that Eish [Adam] was still on the earth during the last few generations before Noah.

Q-1) According to the timeline; how old was Lemekh, Noah’s father, when Eish [Adam] died?

X _______________________________________.

Q-2) Eish was still alive to see the birth of the final antediluvian generations before Noah. Were Shayth and possibly Kayin still on the earth as well?

X _______________________________________.

Q-3) Is it possible that our scripture is describing Kayin and his pagan-progeny as the Nephilim (fallen ones) AKA Ben Adam and the descendants of Sheth as “Ben Elohim” (i.e. those who were upholding the covenant)?

X _______________________________________.
*Think about what God said to Kayin when Hevel was excepted as priest and Kayin was rejected; “Why has your countenance “fallen”? This word “fallen” is the root word in the definition of Nephilim; “naw-fal” 5307H.

Genesis 6:5 (Chabad)

5 And the Lord saw that the evil of man was great in the earth, and every imagination of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 And the Lord regretted that He had made man upon the earth, and He became grieved in His heart. 7 And the Lord said, "I will blot out man, whom I created, from upon the face of the earth, from man to cattle to creeping thing, to the fowl of the heavens, for I regret that I made them."

In the Strong’s:
Evil (first use in vs. 5 is interpreted as “wickedness” in the KJV though both are the same [familiar] word in Hebrew) 7451H ra′, rah; bad or (as noun) evil (natural or moral): --- adversity, affliction, bad, calamity, + displease (-ure), distress, evil ([-favoredness], man, thing) + exceedingly, x great grief (-vous), harm, heavy, hurt (-ful), ill (favoured), + mark, mischief (-vous), misery … sorrow, trouble, vex, wicked (-ly, -ness, one)… from 7489H raw-ah´; (PR); properly- to spoil (literally- by breaking to pieces); figuratively- to make (or be) good for nothing …

X ______________________________________.

Q) Who does vs. 5 say was consumed with and had caused “Rah” (great evil; pain) on the earth?

X ______________________________________.
Again, what is written in English as "man" is HaAdam in the original.

Regretted(repented in the KJV) 5162H nâcham, naw-kham´; (PR); to sigh, i.e. breath strongly; by implication- to be sorry, i.e. (in a favorable sense)- feel pity, console, or reflectively- rue; or (unfavorably) to avenge (oneself): --- comfort (self), ease (one’s self), repent (-er, -ing, self).

X ______________________________________.

Grieved 6087H ′âtsab, aw-tsab´; (PR); properly- to carve, i.e. fabricate or fashion; hence, (in a bad sense)- to worry, pain or anger: --- displease, grieve, hurt, …

Journaling:

Journal your answers and thoughts:

1) Do you think God was angry He had made mankind on the earth and, now, “wanted” to eliminate His created beings or whether it grieved Him that all flesh was becoming increasingly grotesque, and the world wide flood was the solution to stop the progression of corruption.

Explain the clues that lead you to your understanding.

2) Explain briefly what you imagine would have resulted if God had allowed the deprivation and rebellion to continue, and answer the question, was the flood and act of judgement or benevolence --- or both.

3) Could it be that God sent the flood to purge the world of the bad influence of Kayin’s false religion --- because it was so pervasive that if God allowed it to continue, soon no one would walk in covenant with Him to bring Messiah and the future restoration of pure-tov to the world?

Day Four: Benevolent Kindness
Today's study is divided into two parts:

Part One The Importance of Noah's lineage:

Genesis 6:8,9 (Chabad)

8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9These are the generations of Noah, Noah was a righteous man he was perfect in his generations; Noah walked with God.

In the Strong’s:
Favor
(grace in the KJV) 2580H chên, khane; graciousness, i.e. subjectively- (kindness, favor) or objectively- beauty: --- favor, grace (-ious), pleasant, precious, well favored, from 2603H khaw-nan´; (PR); properly- to bend or stoop in kindness to an inferior; to favor, bestow, causatively- implore (i.e. move to favor by petition): --- beseech, x fair, (be, find, show) favor (-able), be (deal, give, grant) gracious (-ly), intreat, (be) merciful, have (shew) mercy (on, upon), have pity upon, pray, make supplication, x very.

X ______________________________________.

Does our vs. say:

1) Noach was so good that he was God’s favorite.

2) Noach obeyed God, and God showed Noach grace [chen] and loving-kindness [khessed].

Righteous(“just” in the KJV) 6662H tsaddîyq, tsad-deek´; just: --- just, lawful, righteous (man), from 6663H tsaw-dak´; (PR); to be (causatively- make) right (in a moral or forensic sense): --- cleanse, clear self, (be, do) just (-ice, -ify, -ify self), (be, turn to) righteous (-ness).

 X _____________________________________.

If someone is “right (-eous)” does that mean:

1) They do what "feels good (right)" to them?

2) It's really not important because God will have “grace” for us anyway?

3) They discipline themselves to follow God’s statutes and decrees --- just the way He said (even if they make mistakes along the way)?

Generations 8435H tôwledâh, to-led-aw´…; descent, i.e. family; (figuratively)- history: --- birth, generations, from 3205H yaw-lad´; (PR); to bear young; causatively- to beget; medically- to act as midwife;

specifically- to show lineage…, gender…, declare pedigrees, be the son of…

X _____________________________________.

Perfect 8549H tâmîym, taw-meem´; entire, (literally, figuratively, morally); also (as a noun) integrity, truth: --- without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sincerely (-ity), sound, without spot, undefiled, upright (-ly), whole, from 8552H taw-mam´; (PR); to complete, in a good or bad sense, literally or figuratively, transitively or intransitively (as follows): --- accomplish, cease, be clean [pass-] ed, consume, have done, (come to an, have an, make an) end, fail, come to the full, be all gone, x be all here, be (make) perfect, be spent, sum, be (shew self) upright, be wasted, whole.

X _____________________________________.

"Noach was 'perfect'" in his "generations (lineage)", but why was Noach’s  perfect lineage so important?

1) To show that Noah was the direct descendant of Shayth [Seth]; that Noah's bloodline had no intermingling with the fallen line of Kayin.

2) Because Noah’s genealogy would one day be part of the Messiah’s lineage, and Messiah has to come from the line of covenant keepers.

3) Both of the above.

4) Noah's mother, grandmother, etc. had not married fallen angels.

5) Other (explain)

Part 2 What Does the "Rest" in Noach's Name Imply?

Consider now what Lemekh, Noah’s father, said when he named Noah;
Bereshit [Genesis] 5:29 (Chabad.org)

And he named him Noah, saying, "This one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands from the ground, which the Lord has cursed.

From the Strong's

Noah 5146H Nôach, no´-akh; rest, the same as 5118H …, from 5117H noo-akh, (PR); to rest, i.e. settle down; used in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively, intrinsically, transitively and causatively (to dwell, stay, let fall, place, let alone, withdraw, give comfort, etc.): --- cease, be confederate, lay, let down, (be) quiet, remain, (cause to, be at, have, make to) rest, set down.

X ______________________________________.

Think about the reference to “confederacy” in the root word in the definition of Noach's name (above) in light of “walking in covenant” (see definition of “confederacy” below)

Word definition: “Confederacy” 1) a league or alliance, especially of confederate states. Synonyms: federation, confederation, alliance, league, association, coalition, consortium, syndicate, group, circle.

Link- Word Definition – Oxford Dictionaries – “Confederacy”: https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/confederacy

Rest (comfort in KJV) 5162H nacham, naw-kham'; (PR) properly- to sigh, i.e. breath strongly; by implication - to be sorry, i.e. (in a favorable sence) to pity, console or (reflectively) *[to] rue; or (unfavorably) avenge (oneself):--- comfort (self), ease (oneself), repent (-er, -ing, self)

X ______________________________________.

This is the same word interpreted as "regretted" in yesterday's (day three) study which referred to God's feelings of compassion in regards to the prevalence of "rah" which had encompassed man and all God's creation as a result of Adam and Havah's disobedience.

There are other words that are interpreted as rest in scripture. Some of these words refer to the Shabbatot: weekly, high holy days and Shemitah (every seven years). Take a few minutes to read through each of the following scriptures.

After you read each scripture, scroll down to the list of Strong's definitions (after), find the number I've noted in the scripture i.e. (2664G), and write what you deduce the meaning should be to clarify the text.

Matthew 11:28-30 (CJB)

28 “Come to me, all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I will give you rest *(373G anapauo). 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest *(372G anapausis) for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Hebrews 3:16-19 (TLV)

16 Now which ones heard and rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt with Moses? 17 And with whom was He provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest *(2663G katapousis)? Was it not to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter in because of lack of trust *[faithfulness].

Hebrews 3:18 (above) echoes Psalm [Tehillim] 95:10,11

10 For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’ 11 So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ *(2663G katapousis)

X ______________________________________.

Hebrews 4:8-10 (TLV)

8 For if Joshua had given them rest *(2664G katapauo), God would not have spoken of another day later-on. 9 So there remains a Shabbat rest *(4520G sabbatismos) for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered God’s rest *(2663G katapousis) has also ceased from his own work, just as God did from His.

The raging oppressor, exacter of gold, has ceased!5 Adonai has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers

In the Strong’s:

4496H menûchâh, men-oo-khaw´ …; repose or (adverbially)- peacefully; figuratively- consolation, (specifically- matrimony); hence, (concrete)- an abode: --- comfortable, ease, quiet, rest (-ing place), still, from 4495H maw-no´-akh; rest From 4494H maw-no´-akh;... a settled spot, from 5117H *(below)

5117H noo-akh;

*this is the same root that the name “Noah” is built from, so the whole promise of a coming “rest” is mysteriously tied to Noah’s flood and the ark.

(PR); to rest, i.e. settle down; used in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively, intrinsically, transitively and causatively (to dwell, stay, let fall, place, let alone, withdraw, give comfort, etc.): --- cease, be confederate, lay, let down, (be) quiet, remain, (cause to, be at, give, have, make to) rest, set down.

372G anapausis, an-ap´-ŏw-sis; intermission; by implication- recreation: --- rest. From 373G (below)

373G anapauō, an-ap-ow´-o; (reflexively)- to repose (literally or figuratively [be exempt], remain); by implication- to refresh: --- take ease, refresh, (give, take) rest. From a comb. 303G an-ah´; a primary preposition and adverb; properly- up; but (by extension) used (distributively) severally, or (locally) at (etc.): --- and, apiece, by, each, every (man), in, through. In compounds (as a prefix) it often means (by implication) repetition, intensity, reversal, etc. and, also From 3973G pŏw´-o; (Primary verb); (“pause”); to stop (transitively, intransitively), i.e. restrain, quit, desist, come to an end: --- cease, leave, refrain.

2663G katapousis, kat-ap-at-eh´-o; reposing down, i.e. (by Hebrew) abode: --- rest, From 2664G (below).

2664G katapauō, kat-ap-ŏw´-o; to settle down, i.e. (literally)- to colonize, or (figuratively)- to (cause to) desist: --- cease, (give) rest (-rain), From a comb. of 2596G kat-ah´; (Primary Particle); (prepositionally)- down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case [generally- dative or accusative] with which it is joined): --- about, according as (to), after, against… and also From 3973G (see 373G above).

4520G sabbatismŏs, sab- bat-is-mos´; a “sabatism”, i.e. (figuratively)- the repose of Christianity (as a type of heaven *[kingdom]): --- rest, From a derivative of 4521G sab´-bat-on; [of Hebrew origin; 7676H *[i.e. Shabbat], from 7673H (PR) Shabbat; to repose, i.e. desist from exertion,... cease, celebrate...

It’s not just Noach’s name and the words interpreted as "rest" which incite thoughts of the millennial reign of Messiah. The whole flood narrative is full of sevens (hinting at the Shabbat and the seventh millennium; i.e. Messiah’s coming reign).

For example:

1) Noach took seven [perhaps- pairs] of every clean type of animal.

2) Noach and the family entered the ark seven days before the rain started and they stayed in the ark seven days after.

3) There were seven days between each time Noach released a dove.

Since Noach’s name means rest, a kingdom/covenant idea, and seven (Shabbat) plays so heavily in the narrative, perhaps our author is hinting at a connection between the Shabbat, the flood and the millennial reign of Messiah.

Journaling:

It’s pretty-easy to comprehend the connection between the Shabbat and Yeshua’s millennial reign, but the flood? Write your thoughts on how the flood may connect to Yeshua's millennial reign.

Day Five: The Earth Was Full of "Violence?"

Genesis 6:10 (Chabad)

10 And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

I hope, by now, we all have fully embraced the understanding that scripture is as deep as the inconceivable God who caused it to be written. Hopefully we can also understand, by this point, that the three sons of Noach, without doubt, have their own revelations to reveal to us, for now however, we’ll just suggest that one thing they may reveal is that at the end, Messiah (represented by Noach) will deliver three groups of people; we will unpack this topic and who those three people-groups may be in our week 9 study.

In today's Lesson I am including links to three seperate YouTube videos with very important information, so we will stick to the following topic to keep our study time managable.

Genesis 6:11 (KJV)
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

Listen to how the Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB) puts vs.11:

11 Ha’aretz *[earth] also was corrupt before HaElohim *[God, magestrates, etc.], and ha’aretz was filled with chamas.

*[in Hebrew, hamas = violence]

Today, the nation of Israel is inhabited by many people groups; 1) of course is the Jewish people (religious and secular), 2) is a mixture of Middle Eastern peoples including Arabs, Libyans, Jordanians, Syrians, etc. and 3) is the Palestinian Arabs. The Palestinians predominately occupy two separate locations within God's Holy Land; 1) the West Bank in Eastern Israel which is governed mainly by an organization called the People's Liberation Army (PLO) and 2) the Gaza Strip which is governed by an organization called "Hamas".

Is there a mystery behind the use of the word hamas by the leadership of Gaza Palestinians? Let's consider the idea for a moment.

In Arabic, the word hamas means to be zealous, strong or brave. In Hebrew, however, the word has a very different connotation.

In the Strong's"

Violence 2555H chamac, khaw-mawce'; violence, by implication - wrong *[to wrong someone]...: --- cruel (-ty), damage, false, injustice, x oppressor, unrighteous ... From 2554H khaw-mas'; (PR) to be violent, by implication - to maltreat: --- make bare, shake off, violate, do violence, take away violently...

Genesis 6:12 (Chabad)

12 And God saw the earth, and behold it had become corrupted, for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth.

In the Strong’s:

Corrupted 7843H shâchath, shaw-khath´; (PR); to decay, i.e. (causatively)- ruin (Literally or figuratively): --- batter, cast off, corrupt (-er, thing), destroy (-er, -uction), lose, mar, perish, spill, spoiler, x utterly, waste (-r).

Define what you believe God is lamenting in Genesis 6:12.

Corrupted 1) _______________________________________.

Corrupted 2) _______________________________________.

Genesis 6:13 (KJV)

13 And  God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Day Six: The Ark of Salvation

Genesis 6:14 (Chabad)

14 Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with compartments, and you shall caulk it both inside and outside with pitch.

Q 1) Is there a message hidden in the measurements of the ark? You be the judge. Remember that Hebrew letters are both letter and number. There are also meanings associated with every letter/number.
Genesis 6:15 (Chabad)

15 And this [is the size] you shall make it: three hundred cubits the length of the ark, fifty cubits its breadth, and thirty cubits its height.

300 = the letter shin = to shuv i.e. return to God's covenant
50 = the letter nun = a servant who bends in humbleness - to be upright
30 = the letter Lamed = to arise or to be lifted above your place

380 = to spread out, make room, make full

Genesis 7:1-5 (CJB)

1 Adonai said to Noach, “Come into the ark, you and all your household; for I have seen that you alone in this generation are righteous before me.

Note how God says to "come into the ark". Is He already in the ark?

2 Of every clean animal you are to take seven couples, and of the animals that are not clean, one couple;

3 also of the birds in the air take seven couples — in order to preserve their species throughout the earth.

Q 2) How many couples of clean animals and birds of the air?

Q 3) How many couples of unclean?

4 For in seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; I will wipe out every living thing that I have made from the face of the earth.”

5 Noach did all that Adonai ordered him to do.
